Well, here we are! This is the first time I am posting on this fresh new site, and I hope I don’t mess it up. Bear with me, this is a work in progress! It is Thanksgiving Day and I have a thousand thoughts swirling around my mind. The first thing I am thinking of today is my family. I have so many wonderful memories of growing up and celebrating this holiday with my big family. I have noticed that when you are in your mid-twenties, the holidays take on a different feel. For many of us, the holidays are no longer always spent with your family. They are about spending time with your friends, new or old, or perhaps your significant other and their family.
For a few years, since I have been traveling on and off, I have experienced a few holidays without my family. It’s always a little bittersweet because while I am enriching my life and experiencing something new, I am also missing the people who I spent my entire childhood and adolescence being around. Since I am at home in Maryland this year, I am going to try and see as many family members as possible. One of the reasons it’s important for me to see my family members this Thanksgiving is because I am leaving the country, once again, embarking on a new journey with my amazing partner in crime, Nathan.
We leave for Rome, Italy on Monday, November 28th. We are beaming with excitement and eagerness to travel together and learn about other cultures. There is always a degree of fear that I feel in the weeks before taking off on a new trip. But like they say, the fear of an experience is almost always worse than the experience itself. Since I love my family so much, it is always difficult for me to come to terms that I am going far away again. But something pulls so hard at my heartstrings to travel this beautiful earth, and I know that my family wants me to do what makes me happy. I’m grateful they are supportive of my adventurous heart and hope that this blog will help us to all stay better connected.
Nathan and I bought a GoPro Hero 3 camera to take videos and photos to share. We are newbies with it so we have been practicing while here at home. We hope that we will be able to transmit the wonder and pure joy of traveling with everyone who cares to learn about it. Thank you for tuning in and following us on our journeys. Now, I’m off to give as many hugs as I can before we depart on Monday! 🙂
